Winter is . . .

By Wade Banta

Winter is
Manna white mountains towering high over
Many-a-man's head.

Winter is
A time for heavy boots,
Goose down jackets, face masks, gloves,
Mittens & sleds.

Winter is
Time for the river otters to dig a den,
The river is no longer swimmable.
For bears to sleep in a deep slumber,
For the red squirrel to gather his last acorn.

Winter is
Time for you and me to settle before a warm
Crackling fire.
