Inventory

By Hannah Hamler

If smiles were quarters
And winks were a cent
If every frown was a dollar you spent
If love you’ve gotten
Was worth your weight in gold
And love that you’ve given
Was worth that twofold
If every hurtful word cost you a dime
And you earned ten bucks for sharing your time
If truly listening
Was a hundred dollar bill
And a real conversation
Paid you two mil
If jokes were five dollars
And laughs were twenty
Would you be poor?
Or would you have plenty?
