The Minnow

By Chelsea Selton

Peering into the water,
the wind rippling my reflection,
I stick my boot into the blue-green hole to check it out
only I check a little too deep.
I yelp
as icy water touches my toes.
Walking to the cabin,
I wonder,
What will Bessi do?
Thinking of an excuse, I stand on the porch.
Suddenly Bessi comes out
She spills out the water in my rubber boot.
Something splashes on the wooden boards.
A minnow!
A minnow, wriggling around on the floor.
Bessi laughs.
