A Trick of the Light

By Andrew Edelen

Red: stands boldly on the precipice,
       daring to be pushed; has an arrogance that
       comes with being firstborn; arms outstretched, laughs at Fortune.

Orange: hates that the sun plays favorites;
       stands in Red’s shadow, jostling for attention; paints sunrises
       every second Thursday.

Yellow: definitely not a coward.

Green: drinks Guinness and smokes the best; prays every night
       for rain; hopes to become President someday.

Blue: cool as Miles but has a high IQ; scorns Red’s ostentatiousness;
       feels like a violinist in a drummer’s body.

Indigo: prefers to hide in the shadows, but swoons for Blue;
       wants to stand on a hill when no-one’s watching and scream at the
       inky sky, but doesn't know the right obscenities.

Violet: gives a good first impression, but gets worse as the day goes by.

White: feels kind of full today--

Black: hates metaphors.
