Fire

By Katie McLeaf

Dancing wildly in the air
Prancing like a wild two-year-old
Roaming on the beach

The waves thrashing the shore
With a silent song being sung
By the waves in such a harmless way.

Fire is the thing that taught me to dance
Shaking and flickering
Creating shadows on the wall.

Shadows dancing on the wall
As the flickering flame seems to shimmy
Practically doing the mambo.

The mambo, like a crazy teenager
On a night on the town dancing on a date.

Acting like a crazy kid on the outside
Being blown up, growing up
But deep down, they’re still young

And the flame is still bright
But in the end fire always gets
BLOWN OUT!
