23 November 2002 Dear J. K. Rowling, Your books introduced me to another higher reading level. I started reading your books at the beginning of my second grade year when I was seven years old. By the time that I had finished, it was nearly the middle of the school year. I read your books over and over whenever I had the chance. Today, all four books sit prominently displayed in a bookcase in my bedroom. I am, in fact, reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for my fourth grade book report. Each of your books taught me something special. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone taught me that in the worst of times, there is always hope. I will remember this truth always. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets taught me that I should keep my mind open and focused, and that a pretty face isn’t always what it seems! Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban taught me the following: not to believe rumors, the innocent will escape false testimonies, and pets have their own special secrets. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire taught me that some people will do the weirdest things to get rid of you, I should suspect the unsuspected, and the bad things that someone might do to me will most likely come back to haunt that evil-doer. I learned one more valuable truth: I should leave some things just the way they are! Your books also helped me in another way. By reading and learning those big words, I made my way into our district’s gifted program, I.G.N.I.T.E. I also learned to keep my Roget’s Pocket Thesaurus handy whenever I am reading or writing. Thank you, J. K. Rowling, for the reading treasures you have provided for me.
