Lauren's Postcard from Kincaid Park

Lauren at sand dunes

Fall 2000

Hey, Cassie. I just got back from the Sand Dunes at Kincaid Park in Anchorage, Alaska! The Sand Dunes are huge hills of sand right by the shore of Cook Inlet. You can either sled, slide, run, roll, or crawl down them! Right next to the dunes is a dirt bike course. There weren’t many people there so we got the whole trail to ourselves! We brought two sleds with us. There are a lot of trees at the bottom so when you go down you have to make sure you stop before you accidentally hit one of them. It was windy for some of the time we were there, and sand was blowing everywhere! It got in my mouth, and in my hair, and all over everyone. There was only one bad thing about being there. Every time you went down you had to come back up. That trip was really hard and tiring. Each time you took a step, you would fall right back down because the sand would slide out from underneath you. What a blast we had at this great Alaskan place!
