HOW TO EAT A POEM
By Chelsea Talbot
Muldoon Elementary, Grade 3
Slurp scrumptious simile soup
Munch meaty metaphors
Crunch chocolate-coated commas
Devour delicate descriptions
Satisfaction fills your stomach
You just dined on a poem.
MOOSE
By Ena Burr
Northern Lights ABC, Grade 3
A moose is on the loose!
Long legs like a camel,
strolling down the road,
Wandering tree to tree,
snacking on my neighbors
favorite willow.
NORTHERN LIGHTS
By Iziah Newsome
Muldoon Elementary, Grade 3
Twisting wispy light
Flaming the sky with color
Guarding the twilight sky
from slithering shadows
till the sun rises and waits
for the next night.
PIECES
By Torrie Lewis
Taku Elementary, Grade 6
The shock of being struck
by lightening
torn asunder by thunders boom
screamed at by relentless wind,
and
choked by the heat of the
earthquakes wake.
Abuse feels like this.
What is left of my life are the
pieces.
IRIS
By Elizabeth Cantrell
Scenic Park Elementary, Grade 4
Sweet, purple,
yellow flash,
tossing from side to side,
a pretty flashy dress
zipping in the wind
bringing out the garden.
WHEN I WAS WITH BATU
By Matty Heiken
Scenic Park Elementary, Grade 4
There was
the smell of
wet dog in the air.
The feeling
of Batu splashing
water on my face,
And the feeling
of tears rolling
down my face,
The feeling
of him
missing.
HAND POEM
By Brian Gerd
Rabbit Creek Elementary, Grade 6
My hand is a jungle
so many paths to choose.
Its scattered streams
the veins all shades of blues.
My hand is a zebra herd,
you cant tell where one stripe
starts and the other ends.
Its an elaborate highway
with so many curves and bends.
My hand is shed snake
that is oh so tough.
My hand is a globe
with lines everywhere,
It is rhinos skin
that is weathered and bare.
CRAYONS
By Bradley Schaefer
Lake Hood Elementary, Grade 4
This box contains a marinade
of yellow fettucini,
a sprinkle of red pepper,
a dash of vivid violet,
an essence of pure green mint,
a splash of organic orange.
It has a scar of black
a nuclear destruction of blue,
a pattern of dark ash,
a bomb of sacred teal,
a rash of scared pink.
This box contains
the neutral sienna
and a note of pure smoke.
HOCKEY
By Joshua Lafever
Baxter Elementary, Grade 4
In the
third
period
the game
tied
players marched on
as the puck
drops, the crowd silent,
sticks fought,
struggle
to score, they
shoot they
miss they
shoot they
miss they
shoot he
scores.
RECESS
By Tusipepa Janice Amituanai
Northwood Elementary, Grade 6
Sherri banged her elbow,
Stephanie skinned her knee.
Travis tore his sweater,
Nikki fell from a tree.
Aricka got a bee sting,
And Veronica ran away.
Now you know why schools
Have just one recess a day.
BLUE EYES
By Zach DeWall
Turnagain Elementary, Grade 5
Blue eyes and bald head
Radar dishes for his ears
My little brother.
