One-eyed-Jack

By Dylan Kutzner

Dylan Kutzner's maskOnce there was a man named Jack. His friend’s name was Oompow. Both lived on Nunivak Island. One day Jack’s friend Oompow challenged him to a walrus hunt. So, they jumped into their umiaks and paddled off.

Oompow was the first to spot a walrus. “I win! I win! You lose!”, and he paddled off. Jack was so angry he beached his umiak and stomped off into the woods. Suddenly a big brown bear leapt from behind a huge tree! The bear hit Jack on the back. Wam!

Jack lay on the ground unconscious. The bear sniffed and suspected Jack was dead. It lumbered away. Soon Jack was conscious. “Something’s funny. I can only see out of one eye!?”

Jack ran home. On his way home he noticed that when someone looked at him they fainted. “Maybe they’re just glad to see me,” he thought.

When he got to his house he looked into the mirror. He fainted too. Just then he woke up and saw that it was all a dream. Then Oompow opened the door and said, “I challenge you to a walrus hunt!”

“No thanks!” said Jack, “I’m going to bed!”
